Chazz Mewhort RIP

I received this message from the Kentonia list. Although Mr. Mewhort is not well known to me, it doesn't mean we shouldn't pay hommage to him.

Subject: Chazz Mewhort RIP

Chazz Mewhort, list member and west coast drummer died yesterday afternoon in Salinas CA. Chazz was born in Toledo OH in 1942 and played with many groups there. He spent much of the 70's in southern California working with any number of people including Jack Sheldon. About ten years ago he moved to Salins CA and worked in and around the Monterey Peninsula. He also did a daily radio show on KRML called CHAZZ JAZZ. Kenton connection, in 1963? Stan played at Centennial Terrace in Sylvania OH. Dee was the drummer but that night he was too sick to go on. So Stan looked out at the audience and asked if there were any drummers out there. Chazz raised his hand and since he was just about as big as Dee Stan asked him up and he played the first set. Jerry Lestock had come down from
Detroit to see the band and played the rest of the night. Later that summer Stan appeared at Cedar Point in Sandusky OH and we went to see the band. We saw Stan in a hallway and Chazz went up to him and reminded him that he had played with the band at Centennial earlier that summer and wanted to talk about money. Stan got this funny look on his face and then Chazz said, "How much do I owe you?" He will be deeply missed."

May he rest in peace.

Kenton/ Hi Lexman,

thanks for this post, and a funny story with it, although the person is
no longer with us.
Do you have a link for the Kentonian List ?
