Jay McShann RIP

Jay McShann, most known for the fact he gave Charlie Parker the opportunity to develop and showcase his talents as his sideman passed away at 90 years old. Peter Keepnews in the NYT and Steve Voce in The Independent wrote some remarkable obituaries.

I haven't seen Mr. McShann myself live on a festival or a concertdate, i remember an interview I once saw in a Bird documentary. In my discoagraphy i do have the Parker - McShann dates but can't imangine having something else by mr. McShann. To me he is or was one these man who was always around and indeed influencing jazz a lot but not really one of my favourite musicians. Anyway thanks a lot Mr. McShann for all you did to the Jazz Community and especially for your efforts concerning Bird.
